ABOUT

Wolkfop Weekender : Power Flower Picnic brings you Daedelus & Felix Laband LIVE.

It feels like just a few weeks ago we were thanking everyone for making Lilo River Flow such an amazing experience in January, and here we are already, rolling out details for the next Power Flower Picnic! We're excited to announce three days of music, kicking off with a full compliment of artists on Friday night.

Power Flower Picnic will take place on the river bank of the Olifant's Rivier, and while it might be a bit chilly to dip into the river this time around, she will be rushing full and fast past our celebration on the dancefloor. We can't wait to host you once again, and welcome the warmer weather with our annual salute to the new season in the Citrusdal Valley.

DAEDELUS
Alfred Darlington, a native of Los Angeles, California, makes his African debut with us at Wolfkop Weekender, and we couldn’t be more delighted. A longstanding member of the Dublab, it wasn’t long before his leftfield, off pitch sounds were being taken note of by record labels as prominent as Ninja Tune and Warp. He stands out in electronic music for his innate ability to fuse organic instruments like bass, piano, accordion and guitar (all played by himself) into intricate electronica that is as beautiful as it is brash, melodious as it is melancholic. With well over ten studio albums under his belt and association with labels as esteemed as Brainfeeder, Alpha Pup and Stones Throw, this truly marks the arrival of one of the godfathers of intelligent dance music. A pioneer and master of the Monome, seeing Daedelus live is something that people don’t easily forget, seeing him on a river bank will make memories that will last a lifetime. He plays Saturday at 7pm.

FELIX LABAND
There are few words left to write about Felix, especially in the South African sense. He seems to have been indiscreetly scrutinised by almost everyone who has any interest in electronic music, and for good reason. His fourth album ‘Deaf Safari’ - released earlier this year on Compost Records - embalms his reputation as one of the world’s great sample addicts. He stands as a master of re-imagination, almost every nuance of Felix’s music is another idea, mauled and manipulated until they meander through his sonic soundscapes like ghosts in the haunted houses of folklore. Impractical to pigeon-hole and impossible to predict, we choose to do none of these things and simply invite you to see him live with us, if you were at the last Power Flower Picnic you’ll know he has a knack for the space. He plays on Saturday at 6pm.

TICKETING OPTIONS

BYO (BRING YOUR OWN) CAMPING [R450]
These tickets are a full weekend pass and give you access to the festival and the riverbank for all three nights. Camping is down stream from the festival site and is in one of the most beautiful glades on the Olifants River. Your own camping gear is mandatory but you will still be furnished with hot water and flushing toilets. A very comfortable place to camp, we guarantee!

LUXURY CAMPING (limited) [R950]
This includes a festival pass, three nights on the river bank and camping upstream from the festival site. Here is where you can leave your tents, mattresses, sleeping bags and pillows at home. On arrival you will be ushered to a two man tent that is part of a three tent village (i.e. six people per village). Access to electricity all weekend at your village is included as is a toaster, hot plate and kettle as well as hot water and flushing toilets. We highly recommend getting a crew of six together and making a village of friends to spend the weekend together glamping it up in style! Price is per person sharing.

All event information and directions can be found at the Wolfkop Weekender Website.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

Weather: Temperatures can go up to 30 degrees during the day, however, it will still be extremely chilly in these hills at night so prepare to dress warmly for evenings. We suggest you bring layers of clothes and a warm jacket and beanie for the evenings.

CANCELLATION POLICY

We are at the mercy of the weather gods. If the weather is terrible the EVENT WILL BE CANCELLED. The entire festival line-up will be presented in a day/night party at a venue in the city, as a separate event. In the event of a cancellation, you will be able to receive a refund ex. booking fee, or alternatively keep your ticket in your pocket, as it will get you the equivalent access to our next Lilo River Flow in January.

Please note; we will only cancel in the most extreme circumstances; this clause is here in case they occur. A cold front in the Citrusdal Valley can be a very unpleasant occurrence, if it’s not a full front, we will go ahead as very much planned.

Ashton Gardner

Fri, 23 Jan 12:00 AM - Fri, 23 Jan 12:00 AM
A mainstay of the Cape Town deep and tech house scene since way-back-when, Ashton maintains a perennial position on club and festival line-ups, quietly going about his business and leaving a path of destruction in his wake. Renowned for dirty, lowslung and bass heavy beats, he’s as at home opening or closing up dance floors as he is riding them in their prickly peak. This is his debut at Wolfkop and he kicks things off on Friday at 5pm.

GOOD TO KNOW

Wolfkop Weekender started as an intimate gathering and music event, and managed to remain a best-kept secret; hidden by the valley itself and the locals of Citrusdal for close-on five years. In January 2014, this jewel of a venue and its penchant for a well-seasoned celebration and rolling bassline were revealed to a new group of unassuming revelers, who’d come to the valley under the guise of experiencing, ‘a different kind of weekend away’.

Lilo River Flow took place over a weekend bearing the brilliant brunt of the mid-Summer heat; making for water-based days, that saw 100 or so floatation devices take to the river and indulge the senses in a crystal-clear, back-to-nature experience. A quality and understated soundtrack floated on a breath of wind by day, took you into a cool evening doused with the adventurous energy of a campout and moved you deep into the night.

Wolfkop Weekender : Lilo River Flow returns with a 48 hour frolic on the banks and in the refreshing current of the Olifant's Rivier in the Citrusdal Valley. Reset, recharge and put an incredible new year into motion from the 23rd - 25th January at the lush Wolfkop Nature Reserve venue in Citrusdal.

Join us for an experience that is part weekend-away, part music festival and all kinds of incredible. Wolfkop presents a unique atmosphere, organic vibe and deep beats of a different kind: Eclectic and downtempo dubs will ease you by day and live throbbing electronica will tease you by night. Bring your floatila devices and your favourite friends, this weekender is jam-packed and brimming with good times.

Wolfkop Weekender is an official satellite event of the Cape Town Electronic Music Festival (CTEMF) and we're excited to announce this affiliation as we welcome our first international guests to our boutique music stage.

GOOD TO KNOW:
  • Music starts on Friday at 4pm and ends on Sunday at 5pm. The soundsystem kicks off at 10am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. We encourage you to make the most of the weekender by coming for the first warm beats and staying until the very last drop.
  • Food Trucks and stalls will feed your soul all weekender with food that is slow-cooked, filled with goodness and made with love. On Sunday a lamb spit braai lunch will be available for those who need a hot lamb roll to fill you up for the afternoon session.
  • We'd like to keep your cup over-flowing on the Olifant's River with our fully stocked bar. On special all weekender: Pimms and lemonade punch, craft beer on tap and frozen fruit smoothies.
  • Our resident yogini, Lara Roux will host a guided yoga class at 9am on Saturday & Sunday morning by the river – rise and shine and follow with a refreshing dip to start your day.
  • As always, hot showers will be available all weekend, we have numerous ablution block facilities throughout the camping areas.
  • There will be an inflatable stall and pump station for all your lilo floatila needs, but worth mentioning – don't forget to bring your floatation device and pump!
  • Things you may find useful to bring: A headlamp or torch for night-vision afterdark, a swimming and shower towel, a hat, sunscreen, a re-fillable juice and water bottle, a warm jacket for at night and a bag of smiles – you'll use them all!

IMPORTANT NOTICES:
  • Wolfkop Weekender is a Leave-No-Trace Event. We endeavour to keep our stretch of pristine river bank in the condition we found it. You'll find lots of recycling and rubbish bins placed around the venue and invite you to keep our beautiful venue MOOP-free. We encourage everyone to bring a re-fillable receptacle of sorts to contain your choice of tipple – let's keep things clean and green. :) The water in the valley is drinkable and delicious so leave bottled water on the shelves, where it belongs.
  • There's plenty of accommodation in and around Citrusdal for those not keen on camping or if you missed the tent village accommodation sale and want a fuss free sleeping arrangement. Wolfkop Free-spirited Traveller Accommodation Group has various cottages available within 10km of the venue and Elephant Leisure Resort  is a further drive but has an abundance of cottages for groups of various sizes.
  • Please Note: While Wolfkop Nature Reserve is a family venue all year round, on Wolfkop Weekender we do not permit children into the camping grounds. Due to the nature of the fast-flowing river that runs alongside the festival space, and the variable proximity between child and parent at all times, we cannot run the risk of negligence on the property. Adults from 21 years and over are permitted. We thank you for understanding.

THE VENUE

ABOUT WOLFKOP WEEKENDER

Wolfkop Weekender is an intimate gathering and music event; a best-kept secret, hidden deep within the Citrusdal Valley, past the orange groves and down by the river. In January 2014, this jewel of a venue, and its penchant for a well-seasoned celebration and rolling bassline, was revealed to a group of unassuming revelers, who’d come to the valley under the guise of experiencing, ‘a different kind of weekend away’. We’ve been making good reasons to back there ever since…

Lilo River Flow takes place over a weekend bearing the brilliant brunt of the mid-Summer heat; making for water-based days that see a floatila super-highway take to the river. Festivalgoers indulge the senses in a crystal clear back-to-nature experience and take in cool evenings doused with the adventurous energy of campout. A quality and understated soundtrack floats on a breath of wind by day, and moves you deep into the night.

Power Flower Picnic takes place in the rolling greens of Wolfkop’s camping village when the orange groves are heaving with bounty. The weekend seeks to seamlessly combine the essence of a camping getaway with a grass-roots festival experience. As the wild flowers bask in the glory of the early Spring sun, and run like blankets of colour across the fields; we salute the warmer season with this annual celebration on the Olifant’s riverbank.

Wolfkop combines an effortless landscape with beautiful camping grounds, a curated music selection and wholesome food traders, for a discerning, music-loving audience. The rest is yours to find and frolic to your hearts content. The venue has capacity to accommodate and welcome 600 friends into its magical fold.

ABOUT WOLFKOP ACCOMMODATION

Wolfkop Nature Reserve is nestled in the Olifants River Valley in Citrusdal and takes it’s name from the nickname the first local farmers gave the shapely mountain that backs the riverbank of the reserve. While the only thing you’ll find howling at the moon are happy campers, the land is abundant with wildlife and it’s not uncommon to hear a troop of baboons echoing through the range.

The reserve has a variety of accommodation options available, including remote cottages, wood cabins, and tent and caravan villages, perfect for travellers passing through slowly and families and groups of friends alike, looking for a quick getaway or weekend retreat. The venue never sways from reminding your free spirit, that this is a great outdoor destination.

The heart of Wolfkop’s offering is a quest to provide a truly off-grid experience, to allow one to reconnect with themselves and nature. To appreciate the sweet sounds, fresh earthly aromas, blue skies, soft breezes, crystal clear water, and rolling, lush green fields; all in a moment that is not connected to time or destiny.

Free-spirited travellers, this is your next stop.
