Sat Oct 2, 08:00 - Sat Oct 2, 17:00
Christ Church, Helderberg College Rd & Old Stellenbosch Road, Somerset West, Cape Town, 7130
ABOUT
The Transept Gathering is a one-day event where christians in the arts, as well as anyone interested in the intersections of faith and culture, can gather together to share their work and gain perspective on life, faith and vocation. A collaboration of KRUX and 40 Stones forming part of 40 Stones' Transept Exhibition, the event will take place at Christ Church Somerset West, and will feature an exciting line-up of speakers along with workshops and a panel discussion. Lunch and refreshments are included in the ticket price.
The Transept Gathering is an adapted version of the Artist Gathering. For the past five years, Krux has hosted the Artists' Gathering, inspired by the vision of fostering a lively, thoughtful community rooted in a generous Christian orthodoxy to the glory of God. These gatherings have served as a profound meeting place for artists from the christian community. Being a Christian in the world of the Arts is challenging on many levels. Alienation is a common experience within the church, and opposition to the faith a constant reality outside. Solitariness invites isolation. Gathering faith-based artists into a community for dialogue and practice in the arts within a Christian worldview, is necessary, liberating and life-giving.

About 40 Stones
40 Stones is a volunteer-based curatorial team that is passionate about the public intersection of faith and the contemporary arts. 40 Stones started in Makhanda (Grahamstown) in 2014, putting up an annual group show at the National Arts Festival until 2019.
The first two 40 Stones exhibitions were organised through the initiative of OM South Africa, an international missions organisation. In 2016, the team formed a partnership with Krux, a theology and culture community based in Stellenbosch, to organise an annual artist gathering event in the Western Cape. Since 2020, 40 Stones has been based in the Western Cape.
