The first of the CPO’s Summer Cyber Symphony series features the CPO’s principal oboe, Lisa White, in Mozart’s Oboe Concerto, a work loved by oboists for its technical challenges. The director of the UCT School of Opera, Jeremy Silver, is on the podium. All Covid protocols were applied during the filming of this concert which took place at the Cape Town City Hall. The series is generously sponsored by the City of Cape Town.

Shannon Thebus, one of the city’s most talented horn players and organists, is also principal horn of the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and regular ad hoc player with the CPO. Jeremy Silver, the director of the UCT Opera School, is on the podium for this, the second concert, which was filmed at the Cape Town City Hall. City Hall in February. Beethoven Symphony no 2 in D, Op. 36
The orchestras principal viola, Petrus Coetzee, and the principal flute, Gabriele von Dürckheim, are performing the Concertino for Viola, Flute and Chamber Orchestra by illustrious South African composer Stefans Grové, supported by Concerts SA. Jeremy Silver conducts for the final time this season. The concert was filmed at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Auditorium in February.

Schubert Symphony No. 8 in in B minor, “Unfinished”, D 759
South African soloist Esthea Kruger makes her debut with the CPO, Ms Kruger, who teaches at UCT, is an established concert pianist, particularly in Germany, Bernhard Gueller, the CPO’s principal guest conductor, returns to conduct this final concert in the current series. It was filmed at Artscape in March.

40 tickets only. The concert takes place at the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium in Parow. This is a chance to see how a filmed recording is made; seats will be at the back of the auditorium, socially distanced; the concert and recording will take up to three hours; Patrons will be socially distanced. On the programme: Piano Concerto no 20 by Mozart with Esthea Kruger and Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. Bernhard Gueller conducts. Access to this concert is R150.
