Music, nature and the chance to experience country life: The Silver Mountain Music Festival is a glorious weekend of fun, entertainment and culture.
The festival brings some of South Africa’s most prominent musicians to this secretive – yet lush – valley, in the Overberg
region in the Western Cape. It is organised by well-known musician and conductor, Richard Cock, and a host of partners (including the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy).

This event is all about assisting rural communities, supporting artists and enjoying music in nature. Not to be missed!
?In order to ensure COVID compliance and protect staff and visitors, we will host most of the events at one main venue on Strawberry Hill Farm. The venue is large enough to comply with social distancing and can facilitate outdoor events (weather permitting).
Come and enjoy a perfect long-weekend winter break – not to be missed! Tickets are limited, with all COVID compliance regulations in place.

This is the fifth annual live Silver Mountain Music Festival.
The festival has its own Youth Foundation to enhance opportunities for rural youth. Linked to youth day, the festival includes workshops by visiting artists, educational and recreational activities in rural schools. This year we will be hosting a set of percussion workshops with local schools.

ALOES AND COFFEE AT ROOIKLIP, SWELLENDAM
Join local botanical guru, Jannie Groenewald, for a journey through the fascinating world of succulents at the Rooiklip nursery. Your journey will be accompanied by a cup of locally roasted, Clock Peaks Coffee, 10am. Adults R100, Children (under 14) R80, Under 5 Free.
BE A REBEL WITH GIN AND PIZZA, SWELLENDAM REPUBLIC
Two of South Africa’s leading percussionists (Magdalena de Vries and Bryan Clarke) join forces to bring you familiar and joyous tunes. To be enjoyed with a unique pairing of Rebel Gin and Pizza! Unleash your own rebel and experience this fun event at Swellendam Republic! Adults, 1pm. Adults R200, Children (under 14) R150, Under 5 Free.
PAINT AND PERCUSSION, SUURBRAAK
Join Artist Donovan Julius and Percussionist Bryan Clarke for an interactive workshop that combines colour and music. Bryan Clarke is the ultimate zero-to-hero operator – even if you’ve never played a musical instrument before, come along and learn a new skill. In a short time, you will be playing as part of a musical performance and local artist, Donovan Julius, will compliment this performance with splashes of colour. This will be a unique and unforgettable experience. We recommend bringing an old painting shirt. 3:30pm. Adults R100, Children (under 14) R80, Under 5 Free.
GUYS AND GUITARS, SCHOONE OORDT COUNTRYHOUSE
Renowned South African guitarist James Grace does a brilliant pairing with protégé Anekin Pockpass, playing music for two guitars featuring both Latin and South American pieces, as well as spectacular arrangements of Lennon & McCartney. Elegantly paired with a glass of Sijnn wine at the charming Schoone Oordt country house, in Swellendam, 7pm. Recommended for Adults only. Adults R250.
COCK-TALES AND CLARKE, SWELLENDAM REPUBLIC
Richard Cock returns with fun stories from the amazing world of music – this time drawing in a former orchestral player – Bryan Clarke. Bryan is a percussionist who gives yet another angle to this fun collaboration, and shares many more stories – but from the players’ perspective. They are not always complimentary about Conductors! The evening includes a light dinner and cheeky cocktails by Spirit of Hermanus. Come and enjoy the company of two of South Africa’s most entertaining musicians. Children not recommended, 7:00pm. PICTURES AND PAINTINGS: MASKS ON MASKS OFF, STRAWBERRY HILL FARM
Join Richard Cock as he interviews photojournalist Jacques Marais and visual artist, Donovan Julius, as they share stories and artistic expressions of lockdown. This includes an exhibit of images and paintings. The evening is perfectly paired with fine wine from Baleia, 5:30pm. Adults R150, Children (under 14) R100, Under 5 Free. MUSIC AND MOVIE, STRAWBERRY HILL FARM
In days gone by, music for silent movies was provided by a live musician. Kevin Kraak and Richard Cock will recreate that experience by providing a live soundtrack to a silent movie. Audience participation is allowed – hissing for villains and cheering for heroes will be actively encouraged. This fun evening is paired with a Can Can of Granache from Renegade Wines and includes a picnic dinner. Popcorn essential! CREATIVE CREATURES OF GROOTVADERSBOSCH, STRAWBERRY HILL FARM
Nature and Art come together in this unique event. Join renowned Cape Nature Scientists as they introduce six special creatures of the Grootvadersbosch forest. Each species has been captured in a nature portrait, by local artist, Donovan Julius. Donovan will share his artistic, colourful and vibrant visual arts creative process, while the scientists explore the creatures’ natural history. The session will end with the unveiling of a large artwork of the Grootvadersbosch forest,10am. Adults R100, Children (under 14) R80, Under 5 Free. BUBBLES, BACH and BOS, STRAWBERRY HILL FARM
The rich woody sound of the marimba, combined with sparkling wine from CanCan (Renegade Wines), all happening under the forest canopy is bound to be a winner with our Grootvadersbosch family. The event starts with a brief stroll lead by forest guru, Prof Coert Geldenhuys, and includes a picnic lunch. We have wanted to do a programme in the forest for a long time, so here it is. Join Prof Coert Geldenhuys as you explore more of the wonders of the Grootvadersbosch forest. The forest is truly magical, and its unique characteristics will come alive with the help of one of South Africa’s leading forest ecologists. Moderate fitness required, good walking shoes and a raincoat are essential.

SIYA, SOPRANO AND SIJNN - CLASSICAL TRIO, STRAWBERRY HILL FARM
South African international opera star, gifted tenor, Siyabonga Maqungo and local soprano Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi, accompanied by Kevin Kraak (keyboard) and Lucia di Blasio Scott (violin) will bring you a programme of popular songs and arias. Siyabonga Maqungo, making a special debut appearance at the Silver Mountain Music Festival, during his short visit back to South Africa, is currently based at the Berlin State Opera (Staatsoper Unter den Linden) in Berlin. Hlengiwe has enjoyed international success in both Europe and America, but is back in in the country she loves best, and is thrilled to be making her debut at the Silver Mountain Music Festival. Join amazing snake conservationist, Nick Kolberg, as he shares his affection for these magnificent creatures. THE SILVER MOUNTAIN MUSIC SHED CONCERT, STRAWBERRY HILL FARM
The Shed Concert at Silver Mountain Music has always been the highlight of the festival, and this year will be no exception. The show features beloved maestro Richard Cock, soprano Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi, the Cape Town Brass Quintet, pianist Kevin Kraak and percussionist Bryan Clarke. Visual artist Donovan Julius, will be painting while the show is happening, inspired by the music. Come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of music with us. Join freshwater ecologists, Martin Jordaan and Jeanne Gouws as they take you into the field to explore the unique aquatic diversity of the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy’s rivers. For the last three years, the Conservancy has partnered with Table Mountain Fund and Cape Nature to improve river monitoring and to communicate the threats facing our aquatic species. The programme will start with a craft beer tasting by Fraser Crighton, hosted by Old Tin Hat Brewery and a picnic lunch. Then Virtuoso keyboard player Kevin Kraak, fresh from international success with Sound of Music and Chicago, will have you singing along to your favourite Sunday show tunes. COMMUNITY CHURCH CONCERT, ST JOHNS CHURCH HALL, BUFFELJAGS
For the last 5 years, we have always concluded the festival on a high note, with a community concert including choirs, singers and an ensemble of professional musicians. This draws the whole community of the area together to celebrate music and harmony and to send festival-goers away on a high note, 3pm. By Donation. Tickets Required.
