Poetic Thursday's is one of Joburg's leading poetry platforms and is proud to host the 1st ever annual Soweto Poetry Festival happening at Eyethu lifestyle centre on the 25th and 26th June 2021.
The poetry platform has partnered in many festivals in recent years bringing their unique flavour and structure that has become a trademark in S.A. poetry circles.
The teams consistency in hosting open mics and headlining poets has made them the platform to lookout for and after being part of many international concerts and festivals around S.A including the likes of Soweto meets Sweden, I love Soweto, Soweto international Jazz festival and others the platfrom is ready to host the Soweto Poetry Festival.
The Soweto Poetry Festival happens in youth Month and commemorates the month through a vibrant youth led poetry festival which dedicates a full days activities to celebrating youth power through a fully fledged line up including 15 live poetry and music performances a day, an exhibition , a day and night market , a panel and a poetry documentary screening.
Spoken word identifies with the activities of the month and it's history of youth empowerment and the narrative of the youth having to pick up a meaningful stance to take and falls perfectly well within the commemorations of the month and it's history and this is the tool the brand has decided to pick up -live performance poetry!
The festival will open doors at 12pm each day ready to entertain guests until 9pm with an overloaded poetry line up,DJ's, craft stalls, a cash bar, and curated exhibitions.
