Music, nature and the chance to experience country life: The Silver Mountain Music Festival is a glorious weekend of fun, entertainment and culture.
The festival brings some of South Africa’s most prominent musicians to this secretive – yet lush – valley, in the Overberg
region in the Western Cape. It is organised by well-known musician and conductor, Richard Cock, and a host of partners (including the Grootvadersbosch Conservancy).

This event is all about assisting rural communities, supporting artists and enjoying music in nature. Not to be missed!
?In order to ensure COVID compliance and protect staff and visitors, we will host most of the events at one main venue on Strawberry Hill Farm. The venue is large enough to comply with social distancing and can facilitate outdoor events (weather permitting).
Come and enjoy a perfect long-weekend winter break – not to be missed! Tickets are limited, with all COVID compliance regulations in place.

This is the fifth annual live Silver Mountain Music Festival.
The festival has its own Youth Foundation to enhance opportunities for rural youth. Linked to youth day, the festival includes workshops by visiting artists, educational and recreational activities in rural schools. This year we will be hosting a set of percussion workshops with local schools.

Join Richard Cock as he interviews photojournalist Jacques Marais and visual artist, Donovan Julius, as they share stories and artistic expressions of lockdown. In days gone by, music for silent movies was provided by a live musician. Kevin Kraak and Richard Cock will recreate that experience by providing a live soundtrack to a silent movie. Audience participation is allowed – hissing for villains and cheering for heroes will be actively encouraged. This fun evening is paired with a Can Can of Granache from Renegade Wines and includes a picnic dinner. Popcorn essential! CREATIVE CREATURES OF GROOTVADERSBOSCH, STRAWBERRY HILL FARM

Nature and Art come together in this unique event. Join renowned Cape Nature Scientists as they introduce six special creatures of the Grootvadersbosch forest. Each species has been captured in a nature portrait, by local artist, Donovan Julius. Donovan will share his artistic, colourful and vibrant visual arts creative process, while the scientists explore the creatures’ natural history. The session will end with the unveiling of a large artwork of the Grootvadersbosch forest,10am. Adults R100, Children (under 14) R80, Under 5 Free.

The rich woody sound of the marimba, combined with sparkling wine from CanCan (Renegade Wines), all happening under the forest canopy is bound to be a winner with our Grootvadersbosch family. The event starts with a brief stroll lead by forest guru, Prof Coert Geldenhuys, and includes a picnic lunch. We have wanted to do a programme in the forest for a long time, so here it is. SIYA, SOPRANO AND SIJNN - CLASSICAL TRIO, STRAWBERRY HILL FARM

South African international opera star, gifted tenor, Siyabonga Maqungo and local soprano Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi, accompanied by Kevin Kraak (keyboard) and Lucia di Blasio Scott (violin) will bring you a programme of popular songs and arias. Siyabonga Maqungo, making a special debut appearance at the Silver Mountain Music Festival, during his short visit back to South Africa, is currently based at the Berlin State Opera (Staatsoper Unter den Linden) in Berlin. Hlengiwe has enjoyed international success in both Europe and America, but is back in in the country she loves best, and is thrilled to be making her debut at the Silver Mountain Music Festival. Enjoy this incredibly unique performance with a glass of Sijnn wine.

The Shed Concert at Silver Mountain Music has always been the highlight of the festival, and this year will be no exception. The show features beloved maestro Richard Cock, Tenor Siyabonga Maqungo Soprano Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi, the Cape Town Brass Quintet, pianist Kevin Kraak, and Magdalena de Vries on Marimba. Visual artist Donovan Julius, will be painting while the show is happening, inspired by the music. Come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of music with us. To assist with social distancing, please bring your own camping chair or cushion and blanket.

For the last three years, the Conservancy has partnered with Table Mountain Fund and Cape Nature to improve river monitoring and to communicate the threats facing our aquatic species. The programme will start with a craft beer tasting by Fraser Crighton, hosted by Old Tin Hat Brewery and a picnic lunch. For the last 5 years, we have always concluded the festival on a high note, with a community concert including choirs, singers and an ensemble of professional musicians.
