GRACE NOTES: SACRED MUSIC FROM AFRICA AND EUROPE
Following its acclaimed 2016 premiere in France, sold-out Cape Town performances in 2018 and a successful 2019
European tour to Austria, Hungary, Luxembourg and Germany, Cape Town Opera is delighted to bring back this unique concert of a cappella sacred
music.
Juxtaposing ancient and modern music from Europe and Africa, Grace Notes intersperses sacred compositions by Byrd, Palestrina,
Duruflé and Pärt with religious music drawn from Xhosa, Venda, Zulu and Swahili traditions. A moving reflection on the yearning to express spirituality through
music, Grace Notes uncovers lines of connection across continents and centuries.
The powerful voices of the Cape Town Opera Chorus shine in Grace Notes, curated by Thuthuka Sibisi with Marvin Kernelle as Chorus Master and Conductor.
