ABOUT
The Darwinian Theory of Evolution has raised fundamental questions since its inception. Darwin's "Origins of Species" has been seen as an affront to G-d, religion and mortality. But is this accurate? Is reconciliation between Torah and Science necessary or possible? And if so, what is the cost to both scientific integrity and the sanctity of faith? Join The Academy in an age-old search for truth, as we journey through science and Torah to quest for answers to these questions. Our 3-week introductory course will explore the origins of evolutionary theory as well as Torah responses to science throughout time. Professor Barry Schoub, winner of the President's prize and founding director of the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, will lead us on a tour of the history and foundations of evolutionary theory and with Rabbi Ramon Widmonte we will explore the writings of classic and contemporary Jewish authorities to truly understand whether evolution and Torah can be or need be reconciled.
