St George's Cathedral
ABOUT
Come and listen to the Symphony Choir of Cape Town on August 27th, when the walls of St. George’s Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in Southern Africa, will reverberate to the sounds of Antonin Dvorak’s glorious Mass in D. On completing this work the delighted composer felt it could be subtitled “Faith, Hope and Love”.
Included in this concert will be:
“Let All the World in Every Corner Sing” by Ralph Vaughan Williams (from Five Mystical Songs)
“Rejoice in the Lamb” by Benjamin Britten – a cantata, the lyrics of which are taken from a long poem written by the eccentric 18th century poet, Christopher Smart.
The concert concludes with the resounding anthem “Blessed be the God and Father” by Samuel Wesley.
We are delighted to have our fabulous soloists on board. They are:
Soprano - Elsabe Richter
Alto - Vasti Zeeman-Knoesen
Tenor - Arthur Swan
Bass - Keaton Manwaring
Gavin Julius will be accompanying us on the magnificent cathedral organ.
After the concert wine and soft drinks will be served in the cathedral hall.
Our choir director, Levi Alexander will be conducting and the concert begins at 19h00. Doors open at 18h15.
