The sold-out Female Legends Tribute show, a celebration of music hits by famous female icons, Whitney Houston, Heart, Celine Dion & Tina Turner, is proudly brought to you by the professional Rise Up Band, who featured on Expresso Morning Show on SABC3 on 25 April. They will take you on musical journey performing award-winning songs such as I Will Always Love You, I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Whitney Houston), Alone, Barracuda (Heart), Proud Mary, Simply The Best (Tina Turner), All By Myself & The Power of Love (Celine Dion).
The Rise Up Band, consists of Sumaré van Schalkwyk, who started singing at the tender age of 8. Not only did she study musical theatre and received classical training in singing at the Waterfront Theatre School, but was also part of a Tina Turner Tribute act that performed on the Spanish Islands, Palma de Mallorca. She participated in The Voice S.A. Season 1 in 2016, performed in a Roxette Tribute at Hillcrest Quarry and also performed for corporate functions and weddings with the Almost Famous band.
The drummer, Ricky van der Horst, is not only a musical director of various bands and shows, but also a drum teacher at 2 music institutions. He has worked with the likes of Tebogo Louw (S.A. Idols), Yolanda Yawa (Holland artist), Gareth James and Chadleigh Gowar, apart from recording live drums for Tebogo, Chadleigh and Alakhe’s albums.
Like Sumaré, Dustin Julius also started out performing in gospel bands. He has performed with well-known musicians like Robbie Jansen, Ramon Alexander, ESP, Chad Saaiman, Black Ties, Candice Thornton, Chadleigh Gowar, Gareth James, Tebogo Louw and Jarrad Ricketts, amongst others. Local festivals that he performed at include: The International Jazz Festival, KKNK, Cape Town Jazzathon and Woordfees and internationally at the Zurich Festival in Switzerland.
Winston Siljeur, a pianist, session musician, musical director, arranger, producer, composer and Music Theory and Piano teacher, is the Music Department Co-ordinator at Pneumatix Performing Arts Academy in Somerset West. He has performed in and musically directed productions like “ Op Gister Se Spore”, “Woman 2 Woman” and also performed in the award-winning show, “Afrikaaps”. Winston has worked with artists like Heinz Winckler, Jesse Jordan, Anton Goosen and Lloyd Cele, too name but a few.
