Last month’s Cape Town Heavy Chef session with Adriana Marais was met with such an overwhelmingly positive response that we just had to make a plan to get Adriana to Jozi.
So, after calling in a few favours at the International Space Station, pulling some strings at NASA and speed-dialling Matt Damon - Adriana will once again be sharing her remarkable journey to becoming one of the first citizens of Mars (yes, that Mars) at July’s Heavy Chef event in Johannesburg.
Shortlisted from over 200,000 applicants around the world, Adriana, a 32-year-old quantum biology researcher from KZN, is only a few steps away from embarking on a one-way expedition to Mars. Top Mars One Candidate, Dr Adriana Marais Is Coming To Heavy Chef Joburg
The aim of the Mars One mission is to establish a human settlement on the Red Planet in what will be “the most profound and influential event of the 21st century.” South African theoretical physicist, Dr Adriana Mars answered the call to become one of these pioneers. Three elimination rounds later and she is one of the final 100 candidates. This inspiring visionary will headline Heavy Chef and tell us her story on 14 July 2016 in Joburg.

Dr Marais’s PhD focuses on quantum biology – life processes that can only be understood using quantum mechanics. It is her research as well as her outstanding fitness level and lifelong determination to inhabit another planet that makes her one of the best in the running.
