ABOUT

Every life enters wilderness at some point – but we don’t always recognise it. The poems presented here are the responses by four women to the different kinds of wildness that have shaped their lives. Christine Coates explores Signs of the Wild, reading poems of her connection with nature and of the wildness in her and the women around her. Pat Lucas’ poems are of the Body Wild, exploring the new territories that open up in body, mood and mind as we enter new life phases and step into the frontiers of age and health. Chantal Stewart considers the Inner Wildernesses, with poems on themes of loss, abuse and xenophobia. Wendy Woodward explores the City Wild with poems that ask what wildness animals and birds can embody if they live in urban interstices.
