ITS ALL MUSIC REALLY : A PODCAST BY THE DIG IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ARTS ALIVE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2022.
The “ITS ALL MUSIC REALLY “ podcast series is the first of a 5 part series created as a response to document and archive the development of the south African alternative music story in present time. South African youth are taking over the world, our unique identity and storytelling has seen many of our artist touring the world and becoming regulars on global stages . It is also an opportunity to celebrate the many milestones of the youth driven alternative scene, through creative interventions and independent collations. This 5 part series aims to showcase the vastness of the south Africa music community and its growing contribution to the global song book.
?Tendayi Sithole who is an Associate professor at the department of Social Sciences at university of South Africa and the founding member of the deconial research network and author the of Black register and Steve Biko : Decolonial Meditations of black Consiousness.
It will also feature Award winning songstress, story teller , poet and TV presenters Philani Bubu.
FAM founder, music creative extraordinaire and entrepreneur Mandima Qunta and Founder of AKUM agency , promoter, music consultant and creative producer Jess white.
A live curated DJ set by one South Africa’s leading independent record labels and vinyl distributors Mushroom hour , well set the tone. This curated dj set will showcase the wide range of young south African artist who have taken the world by storm by authentically showcasing the power and beauty of South African music.
A intimate live performance by Muneyi with guest collaborator Tshepo Tsotetsi of the new school orchestra. Muneyi will bring his his unique take on folklore music. He’s also become a fan favourite through his reinterpretation of his childhood music with a modern take and nuanced story telling inspired by his childhood in sunny
Limpopo with his grandmother who also at times is the main character and muse to many of his songs.
We’ve also roped in Mayibuye Ntsatha aka Dj Mighty to close off the evening and curate an amazing set like no other. The enigmatic Capetonian is in town and bringing his vast Vinyl collection and bewitching set.
