Salon Kewpie: The Legacy Project, in collaboration with the District Six Museum and Gala Queer Archive are approaching the pilot of a groundbreaking pop-up education platform premised on the intersection between the Kewpie archive and contemporary ballroom culture.
The Legacy Project is set to culminate in the presentation of Salon Kewpie: The Legacy Ball on the night of March 11th 2023 at the Homecoming Centre in District Six. Hosted by international house mother, Cheshire Vineyard, the event serves to present and connect the spirit of ballroom with the themes revealed in a rich historical photographic collection that captures the life of a queer icon from the Apartheid era, who has come to be known as the Daughter of District Six.
By supporting this inaugural annual event, you are assisting Salon Kewpie: The Legacy Project in its ambition to establish a scholarship fund to upskill and empower trans-fem youth from areas intrinsically linked to the forced removals.
This initiative honours our South African queer ancestry by bringing Kewpie's Legacy back to District Six.
