ABOUT

Set against the backdrop of Soweto, Johannesburg, "LIT" is a compelling documentary that delves into the lives of young South African LGBTI* individuals as they grapple with their identities, faith, and societal acceptance.

The film intimately follows the transformative journey of Keba, a young woman transitioning into Karabo, a man. It also highlights the experiences of Zanele, also known as Mazet, an intersex individual, and Siyabonga, a lesbian. Through their shared experiences and unique friendship, they learn to comprehend and respect each other's paths.

"LIT" showcases how these three individuals harness the power of their friendship to foster self-acceptance and mutual understanding, all while navigating the intricate challenges faced by the LGBTI* community and life itself.

The documentary poses a profound question: "If God made Adam and Eve, then who created us (LGBTI*)?"

The director and the team behind "LIT" envisioned a shift in the narrative surrounding the LGBTI* community. They sought to move away from the media's traditional focus on the negative aspects of the community, instead highlighting the everyday struggles for basic rights and acceptance.

The team was carefully chosen, comprised of individuals who resonated with this vision. Their goal was to establish a platform for education, learning, and interaction, not just within the LGBTI* community, but also with the broader society, in hopes of dispelling homophobia and promoting tolerance.

"LIT" aims to foster open dialogues and serve as a repository for South African LGBTI* content, capturing the unique journeys and stories within this community.
