ABOUT
THE500, a bi-annual Distance For Difference (D4D) event, was successfully held for the first time in 2013. Along with the events held in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021, close to R3 Million was raised for various children's charities. See the "Beneficiaries" tab for a list of 10 children's charities who will benefit from this year's event. In this sixth installment, to be held at Virgin Active, Waterstone Village in Somerset West, the aim will be to have lots of fun and to challenge cyclists, spinners, businesses and the wider community to raise R750,000!

D4D FOUNDER'S MESSAGE
Dear participant
Welcome | It is my privilege to welcome you to or welcome you báck to, the Distance For Difference (D4D) family. D4D's journey started on 26 December 2004 and since 2013, when the first THE500 was held, it quickly became a very special event. Over the last five THE500's (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021) we have experienced how wonderful, inspiring, hard-working, and self-sacrificing people and a number of businesses came together to give freely of their time, talents and energy to plan and execute an amazing event. We have been blessed with so many memorable moments over the years. Will we ever forget the miracles of 2021 at the airfield?
New venue | This year we are super excited about the continuation of our long-standing partnership with Virgin Active - in fact we've taken it to the next level by hosting the 2023 THE500 at one of their premier clubs at Waterstone in Somerset West. This is the same club where we picked up the spinning bikes of our very first event in 2013! We are so thankful for amazing people like Sibu Khumalo, Ignus Oosthuizen and Bernil Klaasen who has helped to make this all possible! We trust that the 2023 event will be another occasion to remember!
Please know this | It's people like you who make a difference! You are about to enter a "giving-back-event". THE500 is in the first place not about the individual, the prestige of completing a challenge, personal gain, a medal, or admiration from others, but about giving of yourself, the resources you have been blessed with or simply your support. It is about the collective effort of a community that will result in a lasting impact on the lives of many vulnerable children in desperate need of loving care, parental guidance, a good education, physical protection or simply one nourishing meal a day.
