Fresh from a four year international tour with the Lion King musical (2018-2022), Lucas Senyatso was born in 1972 in Mafikeng. In 1994 he enrolled with the Mmabatho Youth Orchestra as a violin player under the tutorship of Michael Masote. In 1986 when Mmabana Mmabatho was first open to the public, he enrolled as a bass guitar student. He also studied theory through London Trinity college, where he achieved grade 6 theory. He also received a cGrade 8 certificate for Bass guitar Rock and Pop.
In 1990 he was called to join a local band , SHINE, that was doing residency at Mmabatho Sun hotel. In 1992 he enrolled with the Univeristy of The North West. He graduated in 1996 with a B.A in Communications. In 1998 he received a call from Hugh Masekela to join his band on a full time basis. That was the beginning of Lucas Senyatso’s move to Johannesburg.
He toured many parts of the world with Hugh Masekela’s band, including New York, Long Island, Boston, Los Angeles, New Jersey, Seattle, Washington D.C, Houston Texas, Brooklyn, Paris France, London, Canada, Germany, Finland, Kenya, Ethiopia and many more.
After moving to Johannesburg in 1998, news of a a new bass player from the North West Province started spreading like wild fire. In a short space of time, Gloria Bosman, Themba Mkhize, Judith Sephuma, Sibongile Khumalo, Lawrence Matshiza, Victor Ntoni, Ringo Madlingozi and many more, booked him for his services as a live session bassist and a studio musician. He also wrote songs for Sibongile khumalo, Swazi Dlamini, Siphokazi, Thembisile, Tlale Makhene, Nkanyezi Cele and many more. He also worked with Keiko Matsui(Japan), Patty Austin(USA), Rene Mclean(USA), Merriam Makeba, Selaelo Selota, Khaya Mahlangu, Khanyo Maphumulo, Mthunzi Namba, Musa Manzini and many more.
In 2006 he released his debut album, ALL OF ME. In 2007, he was nominated twice at the SAMA’s. His song, Baby You, was number 1 on Kaya fm top 30 for over two months. In between writing music for other artists like Mbuso Khoza, he worked with Nduduzo Makhathini, Andile Yenana and many more.
