Jungle Theatre Company presents 'Bongi Bird' and 'Makhulu Indlovu'

Two productions will be performed by the incredibly talented artists of Jungle Theatre Company, at Simon's Town Community Hall.

Please arrive early to allow to find parking and a seat in the hall.
The Bongi Bird performance involves a fun and energetic bird character called Bongi with a creative bird beak mask and wings.
Through interactive clapping and singing the children are inspired to be like Bongi Bird, to eat healthy, plant seeds, do exercise and boost their immune systems.
They are invited to dance and to fly like Bongi Bird.
Makhulu Indlovu has been written and directed by emerging artist Heather Gielink together with the cast members Noxolo Magadla, Zizipho Gcasamba and Marvin Safoor.
The project gives a voice to previously disadvantaged woman of colour.
They use the opportunity to explore their African heritage by working with a Kenyan folktale as the point of departure.
Developing a modern folktale that expresses a new connection to cultural and natural heritage for the future generations.
The story explores how elephants heal the wounds of the past and re-establish their bonds to humans, to their heritage and to their environment.
The story is told from the point of view of a family of elephants. The family is lost without their matriarch. Her bones have not been laid to rest and they cannot hear the voice of their ancestors.
Only through telling the painful story of the past can the elephants and humans resolve the conflict, build a new relationship, and establish the connections they need to thrive.
This is a powerful metaphor for our current economic crisis and encourages young people to draw on their own heritage to find solutions to modern issues.
The story is told using English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa, with live African music and use of physical theatre and an elephant mask.
