Calling all Tech Founders, Investors and Ecosystem Enablers! We’re excited to announce the inaugural meetup of Startup Club ZA in Cape Town.

ABOUT:

Startup Club ZA is the country’s fastest growing tech startup community, connecting the ecosystem's top founders, investors and other key stakeholders to foster collaboration, learning and opportunity. Our upcoming event on Thursday, 11 May 2023 will feature prominent guests Karl Westvig (Founder of Retail Capital, now acting Chief Executive of Tyme Business Banking), and Jessica Boonstra (Founder and CEO, Yebo Fresh) for a night of invaluable insights and engaging like-minded people in the tech ecosystem.

THE GUESTS:

• Karl Westvig is the former founding CEO of Retail Capital and now acting chief executive of business banking at Tyme Bank. Karl grew Retail Capital into one of South Africa's pre-eminent SME lending fintechs - serving over 43,000 customers by the time the business was sold to Tyme Bank in 2022 for a reported R1.5bn (~$80m). Prior to Retail Capital, Karl founded RCS Group in December 1999 and helped build it into one of the largest consumer finance businesses in South Africa with over 750 employees. He is a respected industry veteran, investor and advisor.

• Jessica Boonstra is the founder & CEO of Yebo Fresh, the multi-award-winning, township-centric e-commerce platform, fresh off a successful ~R80m ($4.5m) pre-series A. What started in a Hout Bay garage has grown to empower entrepreneurs and communities in more than 25 Western Cape and Gauteng townships, with access to goods and services through tech. Jessica also co-founded the Buzzer safety app, enabling crowdsourced emergency response for community and professional networks. She is a passionate leader and adviser with strong track record in boardroom-level strategy, business development, online retail and innovation.

NEED-TO-KNOW:

• Tickets are mandatory for admission and your ticket does not include a plus-one. We regret that no walk ins will be accommodated.
• Attendee numbers are capped to 200 pax on account of venue restrictions. Once we have reached capacity, please email us at team@startupclubza.com and we will revert should space become available.
• Light catering will be provided on the night and a cash bar available.
• Parking is available on-site at V&A Waterfront Shopping Mall. The Ster Kinekor is located above H&M and signage will guide you to checkin on arrival.
• Tickets are not refundable, but are transferrable up to 24 hours before the event. To transfer your ticket, please notify us by email and include the name of your replacement.
• IMPORTANT - on account of popularity and in order to grow a good attendance culture, "no shows" without prior notice will be excluded from future events.
