ABOUT
Thank you to everyone who has already purchased tickets to this event. The maximum number of participants has been reached. Bookings are now closed.
Friends of Kloofendal in association with the West Rand Astronomy Club will be hosting their annual ‘Star gazing in the Kloof’ at Kloofendal Nature Reserve on 24th June 2023 from 5pm to 8pm, a family event for young and old!
What to expect on the night of 24th June
Entrance to the event will open at 16:45. Here you will get red cellophane and an elastic band to cover your torch/ cell phone with. Bright lights affect your night vision and by covering torches and cell phones with red cellophane it helps to minimise the effect. Please meet at the “Sun” jungle gym for the Planet Walk at 17:00. Ask at the entrance for directions. Depending on the number of people there may be 2 walks. At 18:00 there will be a presentation by one of the WRAC members in the Eco Centre. After the presentation there will be telescopes setup in the amphitheatre. Please follow the instructions of the person at the telescope as this is very sensitive equipment.
Please bring the following:
- Your ticket.
- A torch.
- Layers of warm clothing as it gets really cold.
The Live It Church will be there selling food and drinks. Dress warmly and bring a torch. Red cellophane (to reduce the light) will be provided at the entrance. For more information please contact Friends Of Kloofendal on (079) 693-5608.
Funds raised go towards conservation and community projects at Kloofendal Nature Reserve, and the development of astronomy on the Westrand. Please note that this event is limited to 250 participants. This event to go ahead regardless of the weather.
