ABOUT
Running from the 4th to the 18th of July at the 16 on Lerotholi Art Gallery in Langa, this year's Food Dialogues Art Exhibition is curated by Mpilo Ngcukana and features works by Lady Skollie, Ignatius Mekong, Philemon Hlungwani, and the late Velaphi Mzimba.
16 on Lerotholi is a township based art space empowering African artists, creatives and entrepreneurs with a platform invested in their artistic development and commercialisation. The gallery is also a compelling event venue for artistic and cultural expression, supporting community-led commercial development along Lerotholi Street, Langa.
The gallery uses art as a tool to foster understanding, empathy and solidarity not just within the local community, but also across the African continent and beyond.
16 on Lerotholi Gallery showcases both art and food gardens in their inaugural Food Dialogues participation. The Masakhe Foundation, co-founded by Thulani Fesi, Khanyo Ngcukana, Shaun Williams and Mpilo Ngcukana, serves as the NPO wing of 16 on Lerotholi. It has partnered with other non-profit organisations like The SA Urban Food & Farming Trust and The South African Red Cross Society to establish the Lerotholi Food Garden, a community resource and educational space for food gardeners, local residents, school children and visitors to learn more about growing food, healthy food, our food system, and how they can become more involved, develop skills, and improve their health and nutrition.
