Baie inwoners verloor alles, party hulle lewe. Karatara is op die Knysna-ramp van 2018 geskoei toe ’n brand in die middel van die nag dele van die dorp in puin gelê het. Dié dans-drama vertel die verhaal van ’n gemeenskap se verlies aan familie, grond en ’n heenkome. Dit ondersoek die komplekse dinamika en geskiedenis van die plaaslike inwoners, en wys hoe die media en politici ’n tragedie as ’n geleentheid gebruik en uitgebuit het. Dit is bekroon met die Fleur du Cap vir beste beligting- en klankontwerp en het die kykNET Fiësta ontvang vir die beste teaterontwerp.

The residents lost everything; some lost their lives ...Karatara is based on the true story of the disaster in the Knysna district on 29 October 2018. In the middle of the night, a fire consumed the town. This dance drama tells the story of a community’s loss of family, land and a place to live, and examines the complex dynamics between, and history of, the communities of the area and how the media and politicians used the tragedy as an opportunity. Karatara won the KKNK 2022 Kanna for Best Debut Production and has since been nominated for several awards.
