Join us for a Sunday afternoon of Broadway hits sung by Vocal Unity, an exceptional local ensemble of people who just love singing, led by Jeremy Quickfall. BROADWAY ON SUNDAY is a fundraiser for Nicolas van de Vijver, an international figure skater who is raising funds to compete at the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating in Budapest, Hungary, as well as to train in Italy.

Nicolas van de Vijver is an 18-year-old figure skater living in Cape Town. He started skating when he was seven years old, at the Black Panthers Club at the Ice Station, GrandWest in Cape Town. He has been the national champion in his section since 2015.

This year he competed at the Merano Ice Trophy in late January (placing second, and qualifying his free skate for the World Junior Figure Skating Championships). At the beginning of February he competed at the Bavarian Open in Oberstdorf, Germany (placing fourth) and at the Sofia Trophy in Sofia, Bulgaria (placing fifth).

Nicolas was selected to represent South Africa at the Budapest Junior Grand Prix in the 2023/2024 season. At this competition, he hopes to qualify his short programme for the World Junior Championships in February/March 2024.

Nicolas spends about 15 hours per week training, both on and off the ice. He currently coaches for a ‘Learn to Skate’ programme at the Ice Station as well as for the Black Panthers and Junior Blades development clubs.
