- MORE ABOUT THE BANDS -

// SUNFLOWERS

Formed in 2014 and howling from Porto, the band known as Sunflowers has been shaking up the Portuguese music scene and like the plague in the 1300's, they've been spreading all over Europe. Maybe it's because the aggressive, destructive sound produced by the band has nothing to do with their flourish name. Maybe it's because of their prolific work ethic. Maybe it’s mind control via radio waves. Who knows?

In over 300 shows over two continents (so far), they've shared stage with bands like Oh Sees, Moon Duo, Black Lips, Night Beats, Boogarins, La Femme, ... and played festivals such as NOS Alive (PT), Festival Indige`nes (FR), Endless Daze Fest (SA), Inner City Psych Fest (SA), Bristol Psych Fest (UK), Festival Europavox (FR), among many, many others.

In their spirit of ignoring-everything-that-has-been-said-to-keep-them-safe, the band proves restless on their live performances, delivering a performance that goes through a meth-fuelled block party to a sonic stabbing session. And they ask the audience to share their energy, to spread it further than a PA system with a sliced speaker can - to let their energy do what it's meant to: break the symbolic chains that locks our hands, distracting us with screens, betting websites ads and useless life hacks videos.

There will always be someone to manipulate, censor and control the airwaves, for it shall be saved of the imminent sonic stack of the band. But no one can turn down their growls and especially their amplifiers. This is a band that sacrificed their hearing for us to be able to study the Larsen effect up close. Now it's time to sacrifice yours.

// SOLD ASH

As 2019 came to a close and a strict lockdown hit South African shores, Sold Ash’s melodic noise rock was born. This experimental and dynamic project is the brainchild of Cape Town-based producer/musician/engineer Ruan Vos.

The 28th of April 2020 marked the release of Sold Ash’s self-titled debut EP. A volatile but cathartic set of tracks punctuating the silence left by the worldwide pandemic. It quickly drew a cult-like cohort of fans, eager to catch the sonic sorcery live as soon as the lockdown ended in October.

Bewitching and wild, Sold Ash’s live shows combine the abrasive and explosive energy of noise/punk with the sustained, cathartic waves of droning sonic manipulation.

Crafted as an immersive and celebratory act, Sold Ash draws in a crowd of instantly devoted viewers. All sinking as one, into sustained, cathartic tones.

Initially starting out as a droning, noise rock trio, Sold Ash has evolved into a transient 6-8 piece line-up. Taking on heavier, more melodic hooks without sacrificing any of their lush, lingering foundations. Their influences stretch from Sonic Youth, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Kills, Radiohead and The White Stripes to A Place to Bury Strangers, Sigur Rós, Portishead and many more.

Sold Ash’s debut album ‘Howl a Little Louder Just Don’t Spit in My Mouth’, released 26 August 2022.

Ruan Vos (vocals + guitar), Maya Greyling (vocals), Joshua Van Zyl (guitar), Charlie (bass), Lourens Swart (bass), Stephan Erasmus (synth) & Dolf Lombard (drums & FX).
