ABOUT
If you have been on a camping trip with us before, you know what to expect! Fun, Fun and more fun!!!!
Cumberland is a 560 hectare Private Nature Reserve located to the east of Pietermaritzburg. Habitats found on the Reserve include pristine savanna, woodland, valley thickets and wetland.

Extensive cliff faces, deep valleys, waterfalls and well wooded gorges provide unrivaled landscape photography opportunities. The Rietspruit Stream which flows through Cumberland attracts many species of Dragonfly, Frogs and other interesting water-loving creatures. The Umgeni River forms part of the boundary of the Reserve and is home to many species of freshwater fish as well as some resident Crocodiles.

Hikes:
Friday afternoon: Horseshoe Bend
Distance: 5-6km
duration: 2-3 hours
grading:
Regular hiker: Grade 1
Casual Hiker: Grade 2
Saturday morning (main hike): The Kranz
Distance: appr.8km
duration: 4 hours
grading:
Regular hiker: Grade 2
Casual Hiker: Grade 3
Saturday night: Night hike in the reserve (exclusive for overnight visitors)

Sunday: The Gorge (no beginners due the difficult terrain!)
Distance: 5-6km
duration: 3-4 hours

What to bring::
for the hike: snacks, water or cold drinks, a cap, a backpack. also a phone or camera to capture all the beauty!
Hiking boots with good grip. a hiking stick is highly recommended. please bring one OR purchase one from us for only R200.
For camping: all your camping gear (tent,sleeping bag, mattress, lights and whatever else you think you may need. All your food and drinks.
OR RENT THE GEAR FROM US!
Prices:
2 men tent R300 for the weekend.
4 mean (more spacious tent R450 for the weekend.
Sleeping bag+ mat R150pp
only 10 spaces available!
Please note that this is a non electrified campsite (in other words: no electricity) It has running water which is ok for bathing or washing but not suitable for drinking so please bring your own water.

Please note that this event is going ahead whether it rains or shines and will only be cancelled/postponed under extreme conditions (extreme heat/cold, hail or heavy rain). Bring a rain coat. a little bit of rain wont hurt anyone! and the bugs will stay away. ;-)

Grading Of Hikes:
Grade 1 Easy. Minimal fitness required
Grade 2 Not too strenuous. Moderate fitness
Grade 3 Moderate. Physical fitness advisable
Grade 4 Strenuous. Physical fitness essential
Grade 5 Very strenuous - high level of physical fitness essential
