ABOUT

The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra (KZNPO) is coming to Pietermaritzburg on Saturday 25 November, in what is being billed as an epic festive concert at Epworth school. The concert will bring the 125th birthday celebrations of Epworth school to a close and end the year on a high note. Tickets have been subsidised by the event sponsors, Parklane Spar, SpecSavers and the United Methodist Church, and are R100 per person.

The programme for the 75 minute concert, which starts at 1pm, includes Luke Holder from Hilton College on the organ, performances by soloists Nontobeko Bhengu, Pietermaritzburg’s very own Andrew Butler and Njabulo Nzuza, as well as 11-year-old Oliver Pentz who will play the bagpipes.

Andrew Butler has played leading roles throughout his singing career and performed as a regular bass soloist for the Pietermaritzburg Amateur Music Society (PAMS) in various works such as Handles Messiah, Faure’s Requiem and Mozart’s Requiem, and is well known for his performances with the KZNPO I the Royal Symphony show.

Dutch born Conductor Lykele Temmingh, a past winner of the SAA Performing Arts Award, will lead the orchestra and the Epworth choir of over 60 pupils from grade 8 to grade 12, will be led by Simon Bester, Epworth’s head of High School Music and Choir Conductor, himself an accomplished cellist. There will be opportunities for the audience to sing along, moments of quiet reflection and moments of pure joy.

The concert tickets can be booked online through Quicket or you can email [email protected] to book. Seating is unreserved and the concert takes place at the Epworth Chapel in Golf Road at 1pm on 25 November.
