A Rhodes University graduate with a BSc and a Fort Hare University post graduate BComm Hons in Information Systems, Zola Futshane is a mixture of educated brains, corporate experience and creative. Working at various big corporations in the last 10yrs his customer service, organizational and technical skills have been through it all. Turning his attention now to his first love, music, was only a matter of time.


ZolaSoul is an Afro Soul artist who has released his debut album 'Thando lokwenene' on 26 April 2014. He has worked with Wandile 'Afrotraction' Moya as his producer. Two of the songs have been produced by Nduduzo Makhathini. A number of song writers have contributed to the work such as Sisa Sopazi (SAMA 2014 Best jazz nominee, produced SAMA 2012 nominee Nomhle: ikwezi for best female artist and best new comer), Mavo Solomon (singer/producer/songwriter Isigidimi) , Luyanda Madope (producer Asanda Bam: Fragile), Mkhululi Ngwenda and Lindile Ndube who are talented song writers from Port Elizabeth and Njabulo She Nene, a singer/songwriter.


The album was nominated for a SATMA award in 2014 in the New Comer category.


ZolaSoul is currently performing around Joburg with Johan Mthethwa on keys, Lex Futshane on bass, Tlale Makhene on percussion, Cameron Ward on guitars, Jonny Vilakazi, Lucky Ndaba and Vusi Gcabashe on backing vocals.


Zola also plays with McCoy Mrubata and Lex Futshne on their ‘Ingqungquthela’ series of performances. This is a collaboration of the two legends that happens every two months for the last 2 years. It features the likes of Yonela Mnana on keys, Siphiwe Shiburi on drums and Samora Ntsebeza on Percussions. They play a combination of music from both musicians with old and new material.
