ABOUT

Munich based drummer and educator Pascal Haas made music to the center of his live. At the  age of 16, he started playing in the state Jazz Orchestra of Baden-Württemberg where he  gained a lot of experience in playing jazz drums, he also toured to India with this Bigband.  Those experiences opened him the possibility to study Jazz- and Popular Music which he  started to study in 2016 at the University for Arts and Applied Sciences in Freiburg. After  graduating with a bachelor’s degree in performance and pedagogy in 2020, he went to  Munich to study Jazz Education.

Coming to Munich was a very important step in his young career. He joined the Bavarian  Youth Jazz Orchestra where he’s still playing in the concert band which is conducted by  Harald Rüschenbaum. Playing with this Bigband, he shared stage with The New York Voices  and Jay Ashby. Furthermore, Pascal made contact with the local jazz scene in Munich and  already played several times at Jazzclub Unterfahrt. At University, he was the core drummer  for the University Bigband where he played with great artists like Joe Haider and Jane  Monheit at the Philharmonic in Munich. Furthermore, he also shared stage with Dennis  Montgomery III, Gary Barone, Jiggs Whigham and many more.

In 2022, he founded his own ensemble with some of Munich’s finest jazz musicians. In this  ensemble, he shows his ability of writing his own music and arrangements which are  combining the rhythms of afrobeat, indigenous music of South Africa and jazz. Thanks to his studies in Munich, Pascal was able to do give workshops and drum lessons  about jazz music at Stellenbosch University. During his stay, he got in touch with the music  of South Africa and the local musicians of Cape Town. He played several sessions and  concerts in Stellenbosch and in Cape Town and shared stage with Ramon Alexander, Schalk  Joubert and Mike Bester. This experience was a big motivation for him to work as a musician  and as a pedagogue and to come back to South Africa in 2023.
