ABOUT
In collaboration with the Novalis Ubuntu Institute, Yin Xiong, an internationally known gong sound artist, will be in performance with Ronan Skillen, a world renowned percussionist, in an inspirational improvisational Sound Work Sharing.
Yin Xiong, originally from main land China, is an ambassador of Gong Sound Music and a holistic sound artist. Her art is contemporary and she inspires many all over the world with her music and her passion. With decades of experiences and trainings with master teachers, and in combination with her classical opera singing background, she has developed a unique style that is vibrant and oscillatory. Her music is based on the belief that sound is the original language of the universe and that it has the power to connect humans with their higher selves. Yin Xiong's approach to Gong sound music is based on the principle that all matter is energy in motion. Her music performances have the ability to bring people into a state of deep relaxation and meditation as well as to help them connect with their own inner wisdom. Yin Xiong will be performing on some of her large collection of gongs, and a variety of state-of-the-art sound instruments.
Didgeridoo and percussion artist Ronan Skillen is inspired by global sounds and grooves from Mali to Memphis and Mumbai. His flair for improvisation began with the didgeridoo, and his later schooling in Indian classical music have shaped a wide palette of textural percussive sounds, incorporating tabla and a hybrid percussion kit.
Together they will aim to present a soundscape that will draw together a universal language of music for the soul, which could be experienced as a deep meditation as well as a deep sound journey.
We encourage the audience to come with yoga mats or meditation cushions or if preferred, to take up a seat which will be placed in an outer circle surrounding the two artists. We encourage everyone to take off their shoes in the entrance hall and to find a space either on the floor with yoga mat/cushion or seat, in silence, and to leave the space, after the sharing, in quiet contemplation too. Thank you.
