ABOUT
MOPFest is the Matric Original Productions Festival at Sacred Heart College. This year we are showcasing five plays that have been conceptualised, written and directed by Matric Drama students. The plays deal with topics that challenge our views of the world as well as ourselves. The casts of each performance are comprised of students from grade 10 to 12 and this highlights our nurturing of the student talent and voice. All the performances have been curated over the last three months with care and dedication.
We delve into the turmoil of lovers and despair of lovers in ‘Addicted Hearts’. This play, written and directed by Azile Quntana and Minathi Guliwe asks whether these lovers will remain trapped in their addicted hearts?
‘Severence’ by Mae Phiri and Elias Gavriel is a journey into drug addiction and its toll on the Watson family. Will daughter, Reneé be able to escape the chaos that evades her reality?
In today’s society, words mean nothing; people don’t see the value of what they say. ‘Unspoken’, written and directed by David Pyott and Kianga van Oerle, explores the idea of nothing heavier than unsaid words.
‘Counting the Unforgivable’ is a tale of deep regret. Angela Ndlovu, Khaya Zwane and Nyasha Jaka weave the tale of a man imprisoned for the unthinkable and haunted by the ghost of his own daughter.
In a world where reality blurs with imagination, inner demons materialize to torment. Navigate this enigmatic realm where truth and illusion intertwine in ‘Threads of Perspection’ by Laika Muanza and Tshegofatso Ditlhake, a testament to human resilience.
