A phenomenal trumpeter with a unique approach to his stylistic interpretation of South African jazz, Contemporary Music and beyond.
Stories, nostalgia, progressive thought, and life experiences are the driving force behind South African trumpeter James McClure's compositions and sound. He aspires to create a space where the music can be brought to life, ultimately taking the listener on a journey where they feel or experience something through the music, whether it's confronting, energising, thought-provoking, or healing.
Since moving to the Netherlands in 2015 he has become a part of Amsterdam's vibrant music scene, performing mostly on the fringes of jazz, 21st century composed music, free improvisation, afrobeat, reggae, punk and dub.
He is also an active organiser of fascinating underground evenings full of new experimental talent, as well as being selected as one of the commissioned artists in 2023 by the infamous Amsterdam experimental music series and production house, Space Is The Place.
