If you're interested in slow, sustainable fashion and kinder, fairer fashion futures, join us in Johannesburg at 44 Stanley Avenue for the first full day Slow Fashion Festival on 20 April.
Not only will we be hosting the Twyg Swap&Mend, there will be multiple workshops, talks and activities to join. Book your ticket for the swap and mend, and everything else will be free. Cost is R60 (electronic payment) or R50 cash.
Here is the list of activities:
- Workshop: Watch and learn as Patch&Stitch gives an old jacket a new life. Collen Shoko will be on hand to offer advice on mending.
- Pop into Lunar for the launch of their pre-loved rail Loved Lunar.
- Service: Take your Rowdy bags and accessories for a rejuvenating treatment.
- Pop into Guillotine wearing your beloved Guillotine garment for a glass of bubbly and a photo opportunity.
- Workshop: Bring your knitwear mending and learn to do visible mending with artisanal knitter Hannelie Bekker.
- Workshop: Join All and Sundry Custom for a denim demonstration at IFUKU.
- Listen to Dr Erica de Greef co-founder of African Fashion Research Institute as she takes us on a short visual journey of some upcycled objects found in South Africa’s local cultural museums, and seen in contemporary craft traditions.
- Twyg Swap & Mend. Bring your worn and loved, but no longer used clothes to swap - and mend. R60 via electronic payment or R50 cash.
- Join Fashion Revolution's Global Mend In Public Day. Remember to bring your mending and repair kit.
- Visit Crystal Birch’s new store to see how she has revived the art of hat millinery.
- Have your shirt collar or cuffs replaced at Five8ths.
- Reefer explains how they make zero-waste shoes.
- King Cobbler will be on-hand to repair shoes.
