ABOUT
DESCRIPTION
#We host The June 16 Soweto Jubilee annually to coincide with a significant public holiday in South Africa, Youth Day. This annual celebration is all about commemorating Youth Day and honoring the legacy of the Soweto students of June 16, 1976. Established officially in 2019 as a one-day commemoration event at The Box Shop Lifestyle in Vilakazi Street Orlando West Soweto, the festival expands this year into a three-day multi-venue celebration from 14 – 16 June 2024. This marks our 6th annual initiative not only to commemorate Youth Day, but mostly about educating today’s youth, and boosting the township economy through geotourism, offering visitors a taste of the authentic South African township heritage and culture experience, while providing access to market opportunities to local and youth entrepreneurs. Since inception, we have hosted five editions of the festival, even in the face of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Goals and Objectives:
Commemorate and celebrate Youth Day - protect, preserve, and promote our history.
Create an annual platform for social activism - encourage active citizenship for change.
Directly empower youth and township communities economically - starting in Soweto.
Collaborate, share value and share revenue - increase tourism activity and benefits.
We Seek to Achieve a Target of 1000 000 Rands in Sales for the Benefit of the Community.
