St Andrew's School for Girls

ABOUT

St Andrew's School for Girls presents a modern musical twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, Into the Woods. Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood and other well-known fairytale characters are interwoven with the story of a baker and his wife – whose longing for a child is thwarted by the witch who lives next door.

Into the Woods is a musical, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and book by James Lapine. It was first staged at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, California, in December 1986, and opened on Broadway in November 1987. It went on to win three Tony Awards, including Best Score of a Musical and Best Book of a Musical.

Don't miss this masterpiece performed by St Andrew's School for Girls, as they tackle, what TheatreCat described as, "Sondheim's extraordinary collaboration with James Lapine... a classic, wise, intelligently absurd musical fantasy... spiky Sondheim music, and arresting lyrics you take away for ever, wild wit, looming menace, dry jokes... a harshly wise, hilariously serious reflection on the vanity of wishes and the power of childlike imagination in a world of flawed adults... an absolute five-star marvel."

Four shows only, from Thursday 01 August to Saturday 03 August 2024.
