Join us as we celebrate Stephen Sondheim's 95th birthday with a performance honouring his legendary work.
Featuring music from iconic musicals like Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, and Company, this concert will highlight Sondheim's genius for crafting unforgettable stories and characters through song.
The evening will feature a stellar line-up of musicians, including Jonathan Roxmouth, who has rocketed to international stardom as the youngest leading man to portray the mysterious Phantom in Andrew Lloyd-Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, and three other soloists, ensemble singers from Vivox Voices, and accompaniment from Winelands Philharmonic Orchestra.

The tradition of Shakespeare in The Park continues this year with Shakespeare’s timeless classic, The Tempest, under direction of Sylvaine Strike, where the wonders of the sea and the mysteries of an enchanted island unfold before your eyes. The programme also includes the soul-stirring melodies of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Tour de Tchaikovsky, a Chamber Music Concert, a powerful performance by Cape Town Opera, and a delightful musical experience celebrating the 95th anniversary of one of the Musical Theatre's most prolific writers, Sunday in the Park with Sondheim.
THE TEMPEST
The indomitable Antoinette Kellermann plays Prospera, the banished Duchess of Milan, now a powerful sorcerer bent on reclaiming her honour. With a career spanning 50 years, Kellermann’s contributions to South African theatre have been monumental, and her portrayal of Prospera is set to be as captivating as ever.
Prospera conjures a storm to shipwreck her treacherous brother, Antonio (played by David Viviers) and the complicit King Alonso of Naples (Brent Palmer) who had her banished from their kingdom. Stranded on the island, they become pawns in Prospera's plan to restore her daughter Miranda's (Jane de Wet) honour and reclaim her dukedom. Unbeknownst to her and with the help of the ethereal Ariel (Daniel Lasker), Prospera's loyal spirit servant, who creates much of the island's magic, Prospera manipulates events in Miranda’s favour, even as she falls in love with Alonso’s son Ferdinand (Jefferson Lan).
The cast is completed by Tankiso Mamabolo playing both Sebastian and Trinculo, Siya Mayola as Gonzalo and Len-Barry Simons, Naoline Quinzin and Lungile Lallie as the Spirits.

Under the direction of conductor Brandon Phillips, this internationally renowned ensemble will take audiences on a classical stormy journey. Expect thunder, lightning, and everything in between as the orchestra navigates through classical masterpieces and contemporary favourites, exploring composers’ expressions of nature’s elements.
The show will be narrated by John Woodland, a Cape Town-based musician, broadcaster, and scientist, who will guide the audience through this symphonic weather adventure.
