Op ’n donker, stormagtige nag gedurende die bitter einde van die Anglo-Boereoorlog, word ’n swaar gewonde Boeregeneraal verpleeg in sy afgebrande stal deur Anna, ’n geheimsinnige kruiedokter. Haar verleidelike, anderwêreldse dogter, Annie, veg ook om oorlewing, maar benodig meer as wat haar moeder se brousels haar kan bied. Adjudant Brand, getroue en dapper soldaat van die gewonde generaal, besef hy word stadig verstrengel in ’n onheilspellende web geweef deur moeder en dogter. Die bloedlose Annie word met die listige hulp van haar ma deur iets afgrysliks aan die lewe gehou. Brand is gewoond aan die gruwels van die slagveld, maar hy kom skielik voor ’n verskriklike keuse en ’n veel donkerder gevaar te staan.

On a dark and stormy night during the last bitter days of the Anglo-Boer War, a gravely wounded Boer General is nursed by Anna, a herbalist with mysterious powers. Her seductive, otherworldly daughter, Annie, is also fighting for survival, but needs more than her mother’s concoctions and care to keep going. Barend is the general’s faithful and courageous adjutant, lured into a web spun by mother and daughter. With the cunning help of her mother, the bloodless Annie is kept alive abominably. Barend, accustomed to the horrors of the battlefield, faces a terrible choice, and a new, unspeakable peril.
