at the screenings of Documentary Films by the brilliant SIFISO KHANYILE, namely: ‘UPRIZE’, ‘THE RECLAIMERS’ and ‘A NEW COUNTRY’.

In between the screenings, we will be treated to tunes on the decks by Folk Selectors: The Multiskilled MXOLISI MAKHUBO and Creative Genius, VUSI HLATYWAYO.

SIFISO KHANYILE is a Producer/ Director for Anaphora Films. He has bodies of work as writer, archive researcher and has worked as a content producer on SABC shows such as Imagine Afrika, Zooming In on Men, Talk SA and Hatch. After studying, Khanyile directed Spiderman and Romeo (2008), a groundbreaking short documentary about the thrills and dangers of train surfing on the notorious Metro rail Soweto line. The film was screened at numerous local and international festivals and shown on BBC and Sechuan TV (China). Khanyile's first feature documentary directorial credits include the acclaimed Uprize! (2017) and A New Country (2020).

MXOLISI MAKHUBO, a vinyl DJ, architect, and educator, has a deep passion for collecting vinyl records. He sees collecting as a way of building new worlds. His love for vinyl stems from its rich history and the joy of merging different musical genres that may seem incompatible at first. Mxolisi's DJ sets are a reflection of his enthusiasm for blending diverse music styles, creating immersive auditory experiences that bridge seemingly irreconcilable musical worlds.

VUSI HLATYWAYO is a graphic designer, DJ, archivist and one-half of Fly Machine Sessions, a DJ and research collective working from Johannesburg.
