Carlo Fortune

Carlo is a born Capetonion whose musical journey began at five years old, when he used to secretly entertain the family puppies by singing songs he had heard on the radio. By his teens his repertoire of all the latest pop tunes and his songbook had grown considerably. Some years later his musical affinity elevated when his sister presented him with his first guitar. He diligently learned his chords and was soon strumming along, mostly to John Denver, The Eagles and Bob Marley’s songs. Songwriting came soon after. He honed his craft at open mics, playing for close friends and family at gatherings, weddings and funerals, and various small events. In 2022 he was one of five artists who were awarded The Jakes Gerwel Foundation’s Songwriting Mentorship in conjunction with Suidoosterfees, where he performed in a musical extravaganza the following year. He also performed at Reggae Sunsplash 2021 in Stellenbosch, The Annual Bob Marley Festival in Saldahna Bay in 2022 and 2024, as a solo artist as well as lead singer with a seasoned reggae band, The West Coast Wailers, doing Bob Marley covers. But the highlight of 2023 was being awarded 2nd place for the prestigious Annual Barleycorn Songwriting Competition.

Plans are afoot to record an EP in the very near future. He continues to write new material and works on refining his craft.
