Thu Sep 12, 08:30 - Thu Sep 12, 22:00

Hermanus Municipal Auditorium

ABOUT

BizNews will host its first investment-focused one-day conference on Thursday, 12th September in Hermanus.

The event features BizNews tribe favourites Frans Cronje, Piet Viljoen, Magnus Heystek, Sean Peche and Cy Jacobs - and two new faces who will deliver insights on the critical areas of electricity and exploiting SA's massive gas bounty.

Since taking over the chairmanship of Eskom in October 2023, veteran business executive Mteto Nyati has played a big part in helping SA's State-owned utility massively improve the supply of electricity. Mr Nyati, a mechanical engineer, is the former CEO of Altron, MTN SA and Microsoft SA and was Director of Global Services at IBM.

It is a rare public appearance by low-profile Don Ncube, one of South Africa's leading entrepreneurs and a major player in developing the country's gas discoveries. Mr Ncube was a top executive at Anglo American, serving as the first Black director on its main board.

After leaving Anglo, then the world's biggest mining group, he created Real Africa Holdings, a major Empowerment success story which created huge value for thousands of Black shareholders. Since distributing the RAH billions in 2003, Mr Ncube has focused on energy exploration and development through Badimo Gas which recently merged with ASX-listed Kinetiko Energy, which has a major onshore gas find in Mpumalanga.

An innovation for BNIC#1 is getting all delegates together for dinner. This follows feedback after the flagship BNC#6 Conference in March, where delegates requested more opportunities to engage informally, particularly over meals, highlighted as an integral part of the previous events in the Drakensberg. The post-BNIC#1 supper is at the Hermanus Golf Club, an informal affair with pizzas and a glass of wine. It features Alec Hogg having a short post-meal 'fireside chat' with Bryan Smith of Capital Engine.
