ABOUT

Salim Washington is a composer and multi instrumentalist, playing tenor sax, flute, oboe and bass clarinet. He has played and recorded with many of the luminaries of the art form, and has been featured in festivals and other venues throughout the United States, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.Washington has combined a life in music with the life of the mind and is a scholar of black music and culture. He currently serves as Professor of Global Jazz Studies and Music at University of California, Los Angeles. He works to combine his artistry and pedagogy with his political conviction that we must work to improve our society with greater justice for all.



?About Mark Fransman:

Mark Fransman is no stranger to acclaim, having been recognized with numerous awards throughout his illustrious career. As a composer, musician, and producer, Mark has garnered two South African Music Awards (SAMA), including the prestigious Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz in 2008. With years of experience in musical theater and a reputation for groundbreaking solo performances, Mark continues to push the boundaries of jazz exploration. He has recently released a jazz album called Solo. Solo has been in the making for 14 years. Recorded in 2009 by Mark Fransman, who produced, performed, mixed and mastered all the music that you’ll hear, by himself. Thus, the theme (solo) is ever present in all processes and aspects of this musical offering.
