Smthin Nu ( Isambulo) by artists Jabulile Majola and Tubatsi Moloi, is a call for people to gather and witness a revelation of two artist from two completely different backgrounds who have become kindred spirits and have the ability to portray their life experiences through their introspective storytelling, language, culture and art, in simple and raw emotive forms.
Tubatsi Mpho Moloi is a South African born singer- songwriter influenced by the sounds of blues, jazz, rock and African folk music. His newest work is inspired by artists Guy Buttery, Philip Tabane, Bob Dylan and Zim Nqawane. His music invites the audience to be open- minded and exploratory as he brings a collaboration of sound and genre, creating an authentic infused folk sound. Tubatsi’s early musical influence came from his childhood home in Soweto, Johannesburg and later as an actor/dancer/singer in the renowned musical production Umoja.
Jabulile Majola was adopted by a pastor’s family in rural Greytown, KwaZulu Natal at four months old, Jabulani Majola grew up alongside 26 siblings.Jabulile Majola was adopted by a pastor’s family in rural Greytown, KwaZulu Natal at four months, Jabulani Majola grew up alongside 26 siblings. His foundation in the church lead him to discover a passion for singing at an early age. Raised bi-lingually, his obsession with language evolved into writing poetry expressed through rap songs recorded in rural studios in Greytown. Following high-school, Jabulani moved to Cape Town and began to explore folk music, delving into the works of Bon Iver, Paul Simon, Joseph Shabalala and Leonard Cohen. Inspired by their storytelling, Jabulani directed his own talent with the pen towards a project he named after his mother, Jabulile Majola. Through his writing Jabulani explores his complex identity with tremendous vulnerability, and a voice that carries a depth of emotion matched only by his poignant lyricism. His writing has gained endorsements from Samthing Soweto, Sun-El Musician, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Jeremy Loops and Låpsley’
