A vintage day for the whole family!
In celebration of a race between a Bentley and Le Train Bleu in 1930 from Monte Carlo to Calais, everyone dresses up in clothes and trinkets from a bygone age to enjoy the spectacle and live in the past for a wonderful day out, young and old alike.
Be at the Heidelberg Station at 09h30 to watch the gleaming and gorgeous Rovos Rail 19th-century steam train arrive over the bridge chug alongside the arriving clattering cavalcade of vintage cars and motorcycles from the early 1900s, with buzzing biplanes twirling about in the sky above.
By 10h30, be sure to have checked in at the Heidelberg Airfield to watch the vintage car and motorcycle cavalcade arrive and thread its way through the vintage aircraft, welcomed by their proud pilots in historic aviation kit.
The ancient cars and motorcycles then come to rest under their national flags - Italy, France, India, the USA, West Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, and Russia – with a menu of cuisines for an authentic cultural experience.
What is that sound? Look up and gasp at the display of the thundering Harvards and Pumas, whose pilots smoke the skies with their silky skills, while you inspect the glorious vintage and classic cars, motorcycles, and stationary engines, and marvel at the sound of the rasping V12 Spitfire engine from World War II blasting the air with its powerful propeller.
Under the South African flag, enjoy a lovingly crafted, fresh breakfast roll with a cup of piping hot, expertly blended coffee. Maybe it is not too early, though, for some freshly brewed SA craft beer straight from the tap? Or even tantalize your taste buds with a tall glass of unique locally made gin.
Wander through the array of retro stalls to tempt yourself with an item or two of high-quality hand-picked merchandise for some vintage shopping. Or just park off and listen to the great live band jamming it up with timeless tunes.
This year, we will have a dedicated, safely fenced off kids' area. Children can enjoy a ride on a miniature pukka steam train, crafts, candle dipping, and much more. Or ask mom and dad for a flip in the helicopter or a round trip in the cool high-wheeler from the turn of the last century.
