ABOUT

The Legacy Series Presents : Andile Yenana

We have a special 3 part Legacy Series-edition coning up celebrate our pioneers and legends of the South African song book. The legendary Andile Yenana returns to the Basement with a special performance supported by some of South Africas most innovative and promising young talent. As we keep growing The Legacy Series and giving flowers to pioneers who continue to shape and contribute to the South African sonic narrative,we also want to showcase the vastness of the local jazz scene.

The King Williams Town native Andile Yenana, is no stranger to the bandstand an enigmatic composer and performer who’s music has become the cross gerational background music to our lives.

From Zim’nqawana, Sibongile Khumalo, Steve Dyer and the late Gloria Bosman brother Yenana has quietly added his magical touch. “Who’s got the map” has become “that album we all need to have” and take in its perfect beauty, a sort of I’m here and you can not deny me masterpiece. Whilst “We used to dance” has become a cult favourite, as if the tittle was a manifestation of what was to come, the album lives beyond dim lit rooms and jazz bars, loved by both young and old, subtly dragging us to the dance floor.

Andile Yenana continues to inspire young creators and musician across mediums to be brave and draw from within and create honestly.
