ABOUT

James Baldwin would have turned 100 on 2 August. As one of the most important writers of the 20th century, he wrote about race, identity and love with insight that remains poignant today. He continues to inspire literature, films and theatre.

We’re inviting a small group of writers to share their favourite passages from Baldwin’s work, and to discuss how he’s influenced them. Come through and browse our collection at our newly opened store at the beautiful building in the CBD, the barbican.

To keep warm on these chilly days, we’re offering a light lunch with some of our favourite soups and bread, and of course all sorts of hot drinks. It’s also a great chance to check out our new space at the Barbican.

Your R50 ticket price goes towards the purchase of any book in the store.

If you’d like to eat, booking the meal is essential.
