Hugo Veldsman makes honest and good music from a place where his deep musical talent meets his classical training at Stellenbosch University, which was further shaped by many hours of performing across Southern Africa.
As a master of fingerpicking, slide guitar, with his laid back and meaningful songwriting, and all the way through to energetic rock, Hugo has made his mark as one of SA’s most talented musicians in just a few years.
After his 2019 debut, 3 years of performing, writing, lockdown and touring; Hugo Veldsman solidified himself within the Folk and Roots scene of South Africa. The lapsteel guitar has become a quintessential feature within his performances and creative output, channelling his love for Americana and Blues. His style is further rooted with his “alternative folk” songwriting, heavily influenced by his finger picking technique adopted from his training as a classical guitarist at the Stellenbosch Conservatorium.
Hugo Veldsman and his band has captured audiences (big and small) with soft worded songs of hope and meaning to rompin’ stompin’ blues straight out of a Mississippi bayou.
