Artist Statement

As an Artist, my work is a reflection of my ongoing exploration of human experiences, and also my experiences, emotions, and the anticipation of existence. Through various mediums such as acrylic paints, mixed media, I seek to capture the essence of what it means to be a single mother, drawing inspiration from my personal experiences without a father figure in my life.

My work is also inspired by the landscape of where I come from, the rural land and the mountains of my homeland, Eastern Cape, South Africa,

depicting women being occupied by work while men are watching. My work is often embedded by symbolism where Iportrait figures with their heads made out of "Dice" which symbolizes the sacrifices, unpredictability of life, risks that women encounter on raising a family alone without the help from men. Each dice has its own meaning due to the implementation of particular colour on it and the odds on it.

Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to provoke thought, evoke emotions, and inspire a deeper understanding of ourselves, the resilience and strength of women. The characters on my painting are not real, they all come from my imagination. I don't rely on references most of the time when I paint, I like diving in into my imagination.

This is a free event.
