The Legendary 5 Tournament has been rescheduled to 12 October 2024! ??? We can’t wait to see you there for an even bigger and better event (and much better weather) – same location, same excitement.

Get ready for the ultimate soccer showdown at the Legendary 5 Tournament, powered by BoyleSports! Johannesburg will play host to an event like no other, where passion for the game meets fierce competition.


What’s the Hype?

The Legendary 5 Tournament is all about the love of the game. Soccer enthusiasts can prove their skills, competing for glory – and the chance to win R10 000 cash! But that’s not all – the winning team will get the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to face off against a team of legendary soccer stars.

This schedule provides a clear structure with specific times for each match, ensuring a smooth progression from group stages to the final.

The organisers reserves the right to amend the tournament structure as it sees fit.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

LEGENDARY 5 RULES AND REGULATIONS
  • Team Rosters
  • Number of players on a team: Maximum 8 Players
  • 5 players on the field at a time + 3 reserves on the bench
  • Players can sub on and off as many times as necessary (rolling subs)
  • Only those on the original team roster are eligible to play in the tournament
  • Players cannot play for multiple teams in the tournament
  • All teams are guaranteed to play 3 group games
  • Following the group stage the top two teams in each group will progress to the Quarterfinals stage
 
  • The Game
  • A size 5 regulation soccer ball will be used for all matches
  • Game duration:
    • Group stage and Quarterfinals: 10min games
    • Semi’s and Final: 15min games
  • A Team consists of a minimum of 5 players and a maximum of 8
  • A goalkeeper and 4 players may be on the field at once, with up to 3 substitutes who may sub for any other player throughout the game
  • No offsides rule
  • No tackling from behind. This results in a free kick
  • No playing the ball whilst on the ground
  • No slide tackling,  sliding offences will result in a card being issued depending on the severity of the offence
  • No tackling allowed for 5 seconds when your opponent has entered the corner circle
  • No two-on-one tackles. This will result in a Free-kick to the opposition
  • No tackles allowed against the wall in order to ensure player safety
  • No backing into opposition players permitted whilst in possession of the ball
  • Only one-step penalties allowed
  • Balls over the side netting result in a free-kick for the opposition from the point of exit
  • The Goalkeeper may not pick up the ball directly from a back pass
  • The Goalkeeper may pick up the ball if the ball is struck against the rebound side-wall
  • The Goalkeeper may score directly from a Goal Kick
 
  • Forfeits
  • A forfeit will be awarded if an opposing team is not ready to play at the scheduled start time
  • The clock starts at the scheduled start time and time will not be made up if a team does show up late
  • A forfeit will go down as a 3-0 win for the team that is there and ready to play
  • If both teams do not show, or are not ready to play – neither team will be awarded points
 
  • Misconduct
  • Abuse towards the referee will not be tolerated and will result in a card being issued
  • Card system
    • Green Card – Player to be substituted immediately
    • Yellow Card – Player to leave the field for 2min
    • Red Card – Player to leave the field for the rest of the game. Depending on the severity of the incident the player may be subject to further sanctions.
 
  • Tournament Scoring
  • WIN = 3 points
  • TIE = 1 point
  • LOSS/FORFEIT = 0 points

The 5v5 Soccer Tournament Director reserves the right to modify the rules at his/her discretion in order to facilitate the flow of the tournament.
