The Eldred Schilder Quartet features Cameron Petersen on keys and Dillon Myburgh on drums and Keegan Steenkamp on trumpet.
Eldred Schilder is a remarkable bassist, known for his exceptional skill and deep musicality. While he excels across various instruments, including guitar, piano, and drums, his true passion lies with the double bass. As he puts it, “I was always drawn to music and started playing the guitar at six. I play the guitar, a bit of piano and drums, but I think the bass chose me. The double bass is definitely my preference. I have been playing the fretless bass guitar for more than 30 years and I love the sound and expressiveness.”
In Cape Town, where double bass players are rare, Eldred stands out, particularly in the jazz scene where his family's name is legendary. His father, Richard Schilder, was a prominent jazz pianist in the ’60s and ’70s, providing Eldred with a stellar musical foundation.
