ABOUT

The Neuroverse presents: Diverse Minds, Unified Schools: How neurodivergence affects everyone.

  • Did you know that in the average classroom of 30 in South Africa, 4-6 children could have a neurodivergence of some kind?
  • Did you know that between 5% and 10% of children in South Africa are affected by ADHD?

In Redhill School's September #FirstTuesday talk, Dr Meddows-Taylor will introduce you to neurodivergence, how the neurodivergent brain works differently, the first signs, diagnosis, and what to expect going forward as children mature to adulthood. She’ll also address medication, addiction, stigma, and so much more!

In the second half of the talk, Naledi Mokoena will discuss how neurodivergence presents in the classroom and at home, social skills, discipline, screen time management, and how to advocate for your child. She will also address the types of difficulties and challenges these children could face in mainstream schools, how these challenges affect children both socially and academically, and how this could have an impact on neurotypical children in the school environment.

Date: Tuesday 10 September

Time: 18:00-20:00

Cost: R80 (to cover the cost of both speakers)

Venue: FFC Lecture Hall
