Reichenau Church

ABOUT

Reichenau was built as an outstation of Marianhill Monastery, near Pinetown, at the end of the 19th Century by Trappist monks, who were not allowed to speak and communicated using 187 different hand signals. The mission boasts one of South Africa’s only stone-ground flour mill. It’s inside a building built against a cliff, powered by water from the Polela River. The choir will be singing at the Mass on Sunday morning for the local community. This Mass is open to visitors who wish to worship. Mass is from 10h30 until 11h30. We suggest bringing a cushion for the pews.

There will also be a Country Market from 09h30 selling local produce, artisanal goods and locally made items. The mill will be selling its stone-ground flour and freshly baked bread as well. Should you wish to bring a picnic blanket and basket, the grounds will be open for families to enjoy. Our boys will be busking as an informal showcase of their talents.

The hour-long concert will take place in the historic church and will start at 13h00. The choirs and musicians will then also be performing a repertoire that is both traditional and contemporary.
